Due to the lockdown in several countries across the world, many of us are stuck at home. While we badly want to go outside, we can’t. Following the restrictions imposed by the government and health authorities is necessary for us so we can play our part in stopping the menace of Covid-19 which otherwise can harm many people in the world.

While being at home, we might have a lot of free time at our hands which unfortunately is being used in surfing social media aimlessly. Instead of wasting the time that we have gotten, and getting more panicked by all the coronavirus updates, it would be good to take some time off social media websites and spend time with family and do some beneficial activities. What can you do? We have compiled a list of things that you can do while practising self-isolation.

Learn Something New

Take out time to learn a new skill. It can be anything from coding to painting. There are many tutorials on YouTube which can teach us variety of things. Thanks to the internet, we can search and learn about as many things as we want. Make use of the websites like Coursera, Code Academy and EdX. EdX and Coursera have courses from renowned universities of the world. You can even get a certificate for some of the courses that you take, and they will definitely benefit you in the future.

You can also use this time to understand and read Quran and teach the children in your house too, so they can develop spiritually as well.

Read Books

If you have books at home and didn’t find the time to read them before, now is a good time to start again and take benefit from all the knowledge that is preserved in ink.

If you have kids, you can have a reading circle as well or have a book reading competition.

Family Games

If you have some good old family games, now is the time to bring them out. I am talking about games like Luddo, Monopoly and Scrabble. There are other games too apart from the board games like charades. Not only these games serve as brain exercises, but they are also a very healthy way of spending time together.

Arts & Crafts

Make a home décor piece for your house. Or you can make small everyday use things that you needed to buy but couldn’t for example, a makeup brush holder for your dressing table. Come up with ideas of recycling old stuff lying around and turn them into master pieces.

Cooking and Baking

It is a good time to step into the kitchen and help your elders. You can learn a lot from them as well. Try out some family recipes or a few new ones. Make sure you already have the ingredients before deciding what to bake/cook. Be careful when using the supply of grocery that you have since we aren’t clear on what future holds.

If you are the elder of the house, you can help your kids work in the kitchen so they can learn the essential survival skill of cooking as well.

Creative Writing

Start journaling. Your stories of quarantine will serve a great tale for your grand kids. You can preserve your journey by writing a diary. Apart from this, you can also polish your inner writer by writing on whatever topic you like.
